A delightful book about the joys of being part of a community! Young readers will enjoy the community events included, proudly noting those they have done and looking forward to future community activities. Working at a public library, I see the joy in community building every day. A delightful book to share this concept with the youngest readers.

It would make a great talking point if you were doing a unit on the community or just a unit on working together. The author uses different occasions and times that people unite and share in the same things. The illustrations are fantastic and depict a diverse range of people. Very inclusive. All in all this is a great book to illustrated and highlight the concept of community and doing good for each other.

5 of 5 Helpful resource April 15, 2025
Reviewer: Melanie E
With simple text in both Spanish and English and clear illustrations, this book is a helpful resource for ESOL classrooms and is also available in many other languages.

Characters depicted are diverse, and the theme of working together to create a stronger community will resonate with readers of any age.

Warm digital illustrations depict children and adults throughout the seasons raising vegetables in a community garden, visiting seniors, picking up trash, sharing cultures, and celebrating holidays together.

Community spaces depicted in the book – a library, theater, senior center, park, school, and garden – will spark classroom discussions around accessibility and how spaces differ between communities and countries.

With themes of kindness, community, and collaboration, TOGETHER IS BETTER/JUNTO ES MEJOR is especially helpful as a conversation starter in an ESOL classroom, providing students with opportunities to brainstorm and discuss resources available in their own communities and ways they might get involved.

Useful resources accompany the book, including audio of the text in Spanish and English and a lesson plan highlighting vocabulary, discussion topics, and game possibilities for the classroom.
